Linea De Grises album foreword

It’s a soundscape. It’s a long-worked vision. It’s a journey into the DNA makeup of one Roberto Estrel: electronic quandaries, analog goth-rock, and a synth-wave spirit. Linea De Grises is his long-awaited debut. Three long decades have passed since he spearheaded underground band Misterios Violeta; singular but potent alt-goth record. Now a part of California’s burgeoning music scene, he’s amassed veteran experience into a fresh and new project. Linea De Grises is his debut solo offering. 

Opening with “Sueño Dentro de un Sueño”, Estrel has taken his new years in California and Tijuana roots into a perfect marriage. The synth umbrella recalls the crashing waves of the beach; it’s a continuation of right where he left off with Misterios Violeta. This audio aperitif is pleasant but the build-up throws you into the rest of the album. His growing love for the organic blooms through the electro-synths in “Ese Dia” by a thumping drum section taking you away to that day indeed.

“Interlude” could mistakenly be taken simply as its namesake. It’s instead a hardcore IDM exposition finally born outside of Estrel demos. It’s unapologetic and a fun ride. It empowers the listener into a vintage sense, with real girth of action – like a 90’s action movie. It entertains you as a reward for coming onto this new journey with him and ultimately, turns the page onto the second half.

“Te Busco En El Tiempo” is arguably the self-titled’s grandest track – Estrel's influences are thrown itself into the pot.  Each new tidbit checks your reality; the listener is now in the thick of the world of Linea De Grises. 

“Linea De Grises” harkens to Estrel’s earlier days in Tijuana, it’s an accompanied introspection through the city lights, through the time for the fans of the scene, and tribute with heart.

The album closes with “Parte II”. It teases a possibility of more to come yet having successfully lulled the listener into experiencing the album, now that you’ve come along for the journey, it's only right for you to take what you’ve listened to and finally be at peace. 

This is Linea De Grises and it's an amalgamation of many things, have a listen yourself and buckle up for the ride.

 Línea De Grises representa una propuesta fresca en la escena musical de Tijuana, pero detrás de ella se encuentra la vasta experiencia del músico Roberto Estrel. Con una trayectoria de varias décadas en proyectos como Foneire, Misterios Violeta y La Tumba de Mafalda, entre otros. Estrel fusiona su bagaje musical en su primer álbum, que ofrece una atmósfera densa y oscura característica del goth dark clásico. Con capas de teclados y sonidos procesados,ademas de instrumentación rockera en un estilo post-punk, acompañados de voces frías y apenas perceptibles, Linea De Grises navega también por el ambient y el shoegaze, ofreciendo una experiencia auditiva que va más allá de la mera escucha y que oscila entre la tensión y la esperanza.

 
Este álbum representa una obra personal e íntima, que parece ser un ejercicio de rememoración de la historia pasada para forjar una nueva identidad musical. Con una combinación única de elementos, Linea De Grises ofrece un viaje sonoro que evoca nostalgia y al mismo tiempo brinda una visión fresca y renovada del género, demostrando la habilidad de Estrel para fusionar diferentes influencias y crear algo verdaderamente único.
